What's In a Name?

Laughing Lemons is the result of a few different things. In 2022, I was transferred out of my preschool classroom due to the Headstart COVID mandate, despite having an approved exemption, to a severe needs classroom. On the fourth day I was injured by a student and spent most of my time in that classroom dealing with severe whiplash, and likely a missed concussion. I also started the complaint process with my union for the head of HR for violating my employee contract.

I was surprised at how well I was handling it. Someone asked me why and I pointed to my faith and the verse that stuck with me the whole time.

And she laughs with out fear of the future.

Proverbs 31:25

I did not know what the future might hold. I did know that it would be alright in the end. I didn't see that I would lose my teaching contact for not being qualified for the position. It was a surprise since they had spent so much time trying to convince me that I was qualified to teach the class that they had place me in.

It was a surprise when every where we heard about teaching shortages but even with experience, two teaching certifications and a master's degree, I couldn't even get an interview with either of the previous districts that I had worked for!

I decided to start my own parent coaching and tutoring business, Choosing to Thrive. I wanted to help parents that were struggling, especially parents who were homeschooling. To my surprise I loved doing my own marketing and connected with other service-based businesses who needed help with their marketing. While initially wanting to work with homeschool families, I found that many of them were small-business owners and needed marketing support so they could balance their business and family needs.

During this time I kept hearing the phrase,

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

And seeing lemon decor everywhere! When I decided to become more serious about marketing and not just the occasional freelance contract, I needed a name. Laughing Lemons just felt perfect.

Being that Laughing Lemons came about because of the mandate, we are a supporter of medical freedom and informed consent.
